CAP-C Certificate: the complete UAV pilot training course
The Cambridge Academy Proof of Competency (CAP-C) UAV course covers everything you need to know in order to operate a UAV for commercial purposes under UK Aviation Law.
Upon successful completion, you receive a CAP-C Certificate – the qualification you need to apply for a Permission for Commercial Operations (PfCO) from the Civil Aviation Authority.
This is mandatory for anyone who wishes to operate a drone for commercial purposes: whether you’re a hobbyist wanting to turn pro, a photographer, a surveyor, or a member of the security services.
What does the course include?
The course comprises a two-day intensive ground school with theory exam, followed by a practical assessment.
Classroom sessions are completed over two days, ending with a multiple choice examination.
- Air law and responsibilities
- UAV airspace operating principles
- Airmanship and aviation safety
- Human factors
- Navigation and aviation charts
- Aircraft knowledge
- Operating procedures
- Operations manual
You will write your own operations manual, and submit it for review, before taking the practical assessment.
Once the operations manual has been approved the practical assessment then takes place at one of our private airfields in Cambridgeshire or Surrey, and will be based upon your submitted operations manual.
From the moment you arrive, to the moment you leave, you will be required to conduct your assessment as though performing a commercial operation for a customer.
You must be able to demonstrate the following:
- Ability to operate to the procedures laid down in your Operations Manual
- An understanding of local aviation restrictions
- Safe handling of the aircraft
- Assessment of risk
- Management of recording media
- Post-flight checks
- Effective record keeping
- Crew management
- Emergency procedures
