Optional Fast-track Operations Manual
The Operations Manual contains all procedures that the Pilot must carry out when operating commercially under a CAA permission. This document can take some time to create but for those who book onto one of our CAP-C courses, CUAVA offer a fast-track service where we will write an Operations Manual specifically to your organisation, all to current CAA standards. This also means that you will be able to carry out your practical flight assessment and apply for your Permission for Commercial Operations (PfCO) sooner.
*This service is only available to those who are taking a CUAVA CAP-C course.
Operations Manual Review and Practical Flight Assessment
If you hold a theory certificate from another NQE and would like to complete your training qualification, you can get your Operations Manual reviewed and take your practical flight assessment with Cambridge UAV Academy.
CUAVA will review your operations manual for suitability and conformance to CAA guidelines. Once your Operations Manual has been approved, you will be invited to carry out your practical flight assessment at either of our private airfields in Cambridgeshire or Surrey.
You will be required to operate as if you are undertaking a commercial assignment. Our examiners will be observing you throughout all stages of your operation to ensure compliance with your submitted and approved Operations Manual and to ensure safe procedures at all times.
Practical Flight Assessment
If you hold a theory certificate from an NQE and your Operations Manual has been CAA approved then all you have left to complete is your practical flight assessment before you apply for your Permission for Commercial Operations (PfCO).
During your flight test you will be required to operate as if you are undertaking a commercial assignment. You must submit your CAA-approved Operations Manual to CUAVA as our examiners will be observing you throughout all stages of your operation to ensure compliance with your submitted and approved operations manual and to ensure safe procedures at all times.
After completing your two-day theory ground school with CUAVA and receiving your CAA Certificate of Competence in Remote Pilot Theoretical Knowledge/General Airmanship, you will be able to carry out flight training using our DJI Phantom or DJI Inspire.
There is also the option to take your practical flight assessment on the same day of your flight training if your Operations Manual has been approved. Our instructor will have in mind what you will be using your aircraft for so will be able to tailor your training specifically for you.
This means that during your time on the course, through the theory ground school, producing your Operations Manual, flight training and practical assessment, there’s no requirement to purchase a drone. This gives you the time to decide what model of drone is best for you. We have purposefully chosen the DJI Phantom and DJI Inspire as these are the most popular types of aircraft that we see at the Academy and provide a perfect entry level for commercial drone pilots.
Flight training covers:
